In a mycorrhizal association, the fungus colonizes the host plant's roots, either intracellular as in endomycorrhizal fungi, or extracellular as in ectomycorrhizal fungi. This study is concerned with the former. Mycorrhizal fungi form a mutual relationship with the roots of most plant species.2.)
